Hi Reader, My name is Josh and I run AmpliSell where we scale brands on Amazon and TikTok. Each week I breakdown what's working on TikTok and how you can replicate it to grow on that channel. If that's not helpful for you, smash that unsub button at the bottom. If you want to crush TikTok, read on! We pulled apart our strongest months across our client accounts and found the same pattern in every single one. Here is what drives the highest GMV months. Proven Creators Posting ConsistentlyYou need a core group of proven creators posting at a frequent cadence. This is the #1 thing you can do to grow your GMV. Yes, you have to keep sampling and growing your number of creators - without that you'll never build your core group. But you can't forget the 80/20 rule. Most of your GMV is going to come from the top creators. You need them posting regularly! One account's highest GMV month came 90% from 3 creators doing 33+ videos each. Another's was driven by 5 creators posting 10+ videos worth $23 - $30K a piece. You need to ensure your top creators are incentivized and rewarded for posting more. Multiple Winning VideosIn our best months, several videos cleared 250K+ views at the same time. TikTok videos run hot and fade fast. If one viral video is carrying your revenue, your revenue drops right along with it. When several winning videos are live at once, the curves overlap. As one video cools off, another is still climbing. One video going quiet doesn't kill your week or month. The overlap helps in two more ways. A shopper who sees the same product from three different creators in one week builds interest and trust. And a product converting across several videos at once sends TikTok's algorithm a stronger signal than just one video spike. Here's how this connects to the point above: several winning videos at once requires consistent posting from your top creators. A cohort of proven creators each posting 30+ videos a month will reliably produce overlapping hits. Hero SKUs Always In-StockThis seems like a no-brainer, but stocking out on TikTok might be even worse than on Amazon. On TikTok Shop, a stockout hurts twice. You lose sales while the shelf is empty and your creators stop creating videos for products they can't reliably sell. And when you restock you have to win back the creators, as well as get your video volume back up. Stocking out is a huge kick in the nuts. The Flipside - What Kills Accounts Two things kill your GMV faster than anything else. Low commissions. TikTok says 14 - 19% is the competitive range for most categories. Creators can see every product's rate on the platform. If your product pays 5% and a similar product pays 15%, creators make videos for the other product. Every time. We have watched teams run low rates for months and wonder why creators aren't signing up. When I was at TikTok's last summit, the biggest brands were doing 20% baseline commission. Letting promos lapse. The hooks on our creator's best-performing videos are full of price and urgency: flash sale, bundle deal, free shipping. When a promotion ends, creators lose their best-converting hook, and conversion drops with it. You have to be always promoting on TikTok. Remember, TikTok isn't like Amazon. People aren't here to buy. They are here to be entertained. Buying is a side affect. That's why urgency works well here, you're giving someone a reason to buy something they weren't shopping for. The KPI to Track If you only watch 1 number, watch this: new videos per month from your proven creators. In our data, that number was leading indicator for GMV. It dipped a full month before revenue did. Every time. Your GMV is a lagging indicator. When it dips, it's because something broke a month ago. So count posts from your proven creators every week. If the number slips, you have a month of runway to fix things before it ever shows up in revenue. Your Takeaway Put it all together and you can engineer top months with regularity. You need a proven creators group that is posting steadily, with several winning videos live at once, and a hero product that stays in stock at a competitive commission with a real deal behind it. Monitor this and you can drive your highest GMV months on purpose. We help ecommerce leaders who don't have the time and team to scale TikTok Shop.
